Lions at the Gate
by Terry Betteridge on April 10th, 2012
Once or twice a week, I paw through auction catalogs; jewelry first and then all sorts of small regional auctions with paintings, rugs and just old stuff. If I win more than one in fifty bids, then I know I’ve overpaid between the commissions and shipping. Sometimes though, things just happen…
Last month, as the driver brings me back to the store, the last leg of our whirlwind trip to Baselworld, I see a mountain of packing material piled on the sidewalk out front and about four feet of a pair of six foot bronze lions. Vague recollections of an inch by inch picture in a Southern auction catalog came to me…
Today, the lions guard the door, a reminder to read the fine print of auction reports.

Introducing the Betteridge Diamond Collection
by Win Betteridge on April 10th, 2012

Last week, we launched a new section on our website devoted to the Betteridge Diamond Collection.
We have photographed each and every diamond, pairing it accurately with its GIA certificate on the site. Better yet, the diamonds are available for viewing in our stores.
Many of these diamonds offer truly exceptional value. Over the years, we have done our best to buy diamonds opportunistically, helping to ensure favorable pricing for our customers.
There is no better way to showcase a spectacular diamond than in an elegant, handcrafted setting. You can see a few of our favorite designs in our engagement ring guide.
We hope that you enjoy the newest addition to Betteridge.com, and please let us know if you have any suggestions to improve it.

In 1989, the WWE approached Betteridge with an exciting request: to design and manufacture a championship wrestling belt for Ted Dibiase, the Million Dollar Man. We just found this wonderful clip of the WWE’s footage surrounding the creation of the “Million Dollar Belt.”
The New Betteridge @ Solaris Opens in Vail this Month
by Lexy Tanner on November 5th, 2010

On November 26, 2010 Betteridge will be opening the doors to its new fine watch and jewelry store, at the landmark residential and retail development Solaris, in Vail, Colorado.
Solaris, a development destined to change the way people live and vacation in Vail, will combine effortless mountain living, metropolitan convenience, unsurpassed quality and service, in a way that enhances Vail’s pristine beauty, according to Peter Knobel, lead developer.
Betteridge Solaris will add new excitement and dimension to the Betteridge offering in Vail – complementing the existing shop, which will continue to operate at Gore Creek Drive. Meaningful new enhancements include the addition of Rolex to the brand repertoire (to date, Rolex has only been available at the Greenwich, CT store), an expanded collection from Van Cleef & Arpels, and an inviting Patek Philippe ‘watch bar’, where customers can explore the many wonders of the Patek brand, at their leisure. Betteridge will also continue to offer many of the finest watch and jewelry brands in the world including Bvlgari, Paul Morelli and Audemars Piguet.
Tom Brady & Betteridge Sell Watches for Charity
by Scott La Du on November 4th, 2010

Movado Tom Brady Limited Edition Chronograph, 18k Rose Gold, $17,500, comes with handwritten note from Tom about the watch
Over the last few years, it has been my privilege to get to know Tom Brady. He is an extraordinarily talented athlete for sure, but something many people may not know about him is just how wonderfully generous he is as well.
A few days ago, Tom, an avid watch aficionado, asked me if I would help him sell two of his most treasured possessions to benefit one of his beloved charities:
Best Buddies is a non-profit organization “dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).”
All of Betteridge’s proceeds from these sales will go to this fine charity.
If you are interested in purchasing either of these spectacular timepieces, please call me at (203)869-0124, e-mail me at scott@betteridge.com, or come visit Betteridge at 117 Greenwich Avenue.

Better by Design: The New Betteridge Collection
by Steven Grotell on September 7th, 2010

Better by design is as much a process as it is an attitude. Every aspect of the design process, from overall concept to the smallest detail, contributes to the unified expression of the whole.
Widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of modern design, German/American architect Ludwig Mies Van der Rhohe established the foundation for a design vocabulary based on his famous dictum, “less is more.” Every aspect of his design process was focused on achieving this philosophical goal.
It is with much the same deliberation and attention to design perfection that we have approached the development and creation of our new Betteridge Collection products. Every aspect of the product development process results from the desire to achieve design perfection while staying true to our core values.
The goal is to provide an easy, natural and emotional connection between the wearer and the product. Only then is a finished piece worthy of the Betteridge Collection hallmark.
Happy 1st Birthday, Betteridge.com
by Win Betteridge on June 28th, 2010
Just over 365 days ago, we launched the first iteration of Betteridge.com. It’s amazing how much can change in a year.
Today, you can browse over 2,000 products on our site. Every time we acquire a vintage watch or piece of estate jewelry, you can view it on Betteridge.com before it hits the sales floor. Moreover, from Patek Philippe to A. Lange & Sohne and from Seaman Schepps to Verdura, we have partnered with the finest watch and jewelry brands in the world to build an exceptional online catalog of new watches and jewelry.
We are not displaying these products just to generate sales. We created Betteridge.com first and foremost to enhance our customer service. We believe that there are times when our customers want to receive the same level of care that they do in our stores from the comfort of their living rooms.
We’re building this service to be one that we want to use- full of products that are curated by experts from the finest jewelry and watch collections and managed by sales professionals who care more about making customers happy than padding a quarterly report.
This is just the beginning. Betteridge.com is evolving every day, as we add more products and functionality. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do to improve this service for you.
Steven Grotell: Our New Product Designer
by Terry Betteridge on May 1st, 2010

Steven Grotell, Director of Product Development
We’ve been lucky over the years to be able to hire some really talented people here and our latest is that, but exceptional for his history of great designing for the great designers: Steven Grotell brings his experience from Tiffany’s and Ralph Lauren and his degrees in art and architecture to the shop; his great eye and hand will be shaping designs for our future.
Steven is first nursing our new St. Christopher watch from cradle to wrists, developing the new big date movement and case details that will make the watch better in every way, then directing manufacture of new, in house jewels.
Doubling Down in Vail
by Terry Betteridge on April 1st, 2010
Tripling plus, actually… Betteridge Vail will be moving to get much more room, build the world’s first “Watch Bar” and make a “Customer’s Club” in the English sense of the word. Massive displays for Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, IWC and Cartier will fill much of the new space; of course, Van Cleef will keep a special place in our plans, as will the rest of our jewelry designers.
Our new digs will be in a friend’s new place, the Solaris building, the most creative and best built structure in town, looking right up the main lift slope, ready for business by Thanksgiving.
