The Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar watch (ref. 5159J) unites a number of Patek's traditions: the perpetual calendar with retrograde date and the officer's style see-through case back. In addition to its rare perpetual calendar complication, the 5159J features a mechanical automatic movement; opaline-white dial with hand-guillochéd center; moon phase display; center seconds hand; and 38mm, 18k yellow gold case on a brown alligator strap with an 18k yellow gold deployant clasp.

The 5159J has one of the most interesting and complex movements to be found in any Patek Philippe watch. The 5159J's retrograde date function is composed of a hand that progresses along a 240 degree arc between the 8 and 4 o'clock markers denoting the date of the month. On midnight of the last day of the month, the hand automatically jumps back to the first of the month and starts the cycle again.
