Japanese independent Kurono Tokyo is the brainchild of watchmaker Hajime Asaoka. Under the mandate of bringing Asaoka’s design sensibility to the masses using assembly line manufacturing — rather than the handmade haute horlogerie pieces for which he is primarily known — the company is able to offer beautiful watches for several thousand dollars, rather than tens of thousands. 

The Mori is Kurono Tokyo’s first anniversary watch. Made in a run of 288 pieces — the initial 50 examples quickly sold out — it features a 37mm steel case with an unsigned crown, sapphire crystal, and the Miyota Calibre 90S5 automatic movement. Fitted with a striking, emerald-green dial with applied quadrant indices and a matching syringe handset, it comes fitted to a black calf-leather strap with a steel pin buckle.

In as-new condition showing only faint handling wear, this Mori includes its white sleeve, outer sleeve, inner box, wave textile cloth, and stamped Japanese and English papers confirming its status as a numbered edition of 288 pieces dating to 2020.

One thing’s for sure: Few contemporary watches feature this kind of flair for this kind of money!

OVERALL CONDITION

Case is in outstanding, as-new condition overall showing only faint wear from gentle use. Sunburst emerald green dial with applied quadrant indices is in as-new condition with matching 'syringe' handset. Unsigned crown.
