WHY WE LOVE IT

This is Grand Seiko like you’ve never seen it before.

Big, bold, and colorful, it still touts its Japanese roots, but not in the way you’d think: Gone are the slimmed-down proportions of many other GS models, as is the steel housing. This is a monster of a watch — and that’s sort of the point, given its name.

The SBGA405 ‘Godzilla’ 65th Anniversary Edition from circa 2019 is indeed a tribute to the screen debut of the legendary, radioactive monster. Housed in a highly faceted 44.5mm titanium case with ‘holey’ lugs, a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a fixed bezel, it features a glorious luminous sunburst red dial with applied indices, a ‘monster’ handset, a date, and a power reserve indicator at 7:30.

Powered by the Grand Seiko Spring Drive Calibre 9R15 — which is visible via a sapphire exhibition caseback — it comes paired to a signed red and black leather strap with a titanium, double-push button deployant clasp. In excellent condition, it also includes its factory goodies.

This is not a Grand Seiko for the faint of heart — and that’s why we absolutely love it.

OVERALL CONDITION

The case is in outstanding condition overall showing only faint signs of wear from gentle use. Luminous red sunburst dial with applied indices is in as-new condition with matching handset. Signed crown. Sapphire exhibition caseback.
