WHY WE LOVE IT

Despite the fact that Hamilton has been a Swiss company for nearly as long as it was an American brand, it still churned out — and continues to churn out — fantastic watches.

Many of these pieces, such as the Khaki Field Mechanical, have only recently hit the market. (Indeed, the past five or 10 years have been some of the brand’s strongest since its big move to Switzerland, in our humble opinion.) However, the 1990s saw Hamilton building some awesome chronographs that have since become classics in their own right.

The 1990s-era Chrono-Matic is one such collection. These automatic chronos, with their Swiss movements and distinctive, triple-register arrangement along the left side of the dial, were some of the more creative uses of the Valjoux 7750. 

Take this particular example: Housed in a 38mm stainless steel case with holey lugs, a domed acrylic crystal, a signed crown, and a black tachymeter bezel, it features a luminous satin black dial with gold-tone subsidiary registers, a matching white ‘kite’ handset, an outer 1/5th-seconds track, and a day-date display. 

Paired to one of our Analog:Shift alligator-pattern leather straps and powered by the famed Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement, this fabulous watch exists somewhere along the continuum of vintage and contemporary chronograph designs.

No matter how you classify it, however, it’s a terrific timepiece that you’ll thoroughly enjoy wearing.

OVERALL CONDITION

The case is in excellent condition overall showing signs of light previous polishing and light wear consistent with age and use. Luminous satin black dial with printed 'Arabic' indices and gold-tone subsidiary register rings is in equally excellent condition with matching white 'kite' handset. Signed crown. Bezel insert shows light wear.
