WHY WE LOVE IT

Not every timepiece from the world’s greatest watchmaker fits neatly into the mold of an overarching theme or collection. 

While we love a simple Calatrava, a sporty Aquanaut, or a complicated perpetual calendar as much as the next guy, the oddball, more overlooked and usually limited-production, shaped watches made by the maison in second half of the 20th century are often some of the most innovative and charming in the brand’s oeuvre.

Take this ladies’ Gondolo for example. Dating to the 2000s, it has an exaggerated rectangular profile that makes it unique even amongst the greater Patek Philippe catalog. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s positively dripping in diamonds!

Housed in a 36.5mm diamond-encrusted 18K rose gold case with diamond-encrusted lugs, it features a gorgeous faceted sapphire crystal, a signed crown, a mother of pearl dial with a radial finished center, and a blued steel 'kite' handset. Powered by the hand-wound Patek Philippe Calibre 16-250/160 — which is visible via an exhibition caseback — it’s paired to a beautiful, signed brown alligator strap with a signed, 18K rose gold pin buckle.

While any precious metal dress watch is sure to earn a nod of respect from watch lovers, this unique Gondolo is guaranteed to earn one from anyone!

OVERALL CONDITION

The case is in fantastic condition overall showing signs of light professional refinishing at Patek Philippe and faint wear from careful handling. Silver radial dial with outer white 'mother-of-pearl' chapter ring is in as-new condition with blued-steel 'kite' handset. Signed crown. Service sticker from Patek Philippe. Sapphire exhibition caseback.
