With its ties to the great Gérald Genta — who was only 24 when he designed it — stunning looks, a horologically-significant movement and an interesting history to boot, the Polerouter offers an amazing value proposition that punches far above its weight class.
This particular Polerouter, a Reference 104501, stands out as something incredibly special. Dating to circa 1959, it features a solid 35.5mm 18K rose gold twisted-lug case with an exceedingly rare, multi-tone silver dial with applied indices and a framed, round date aperture at 3 o'clock, a matching dauphine handset, and UG's Calibre 215-1 automatic-winding 'microtor' movement within.
The culmination of design details such as its twisted lug case, applied logo dial, round date window, and outstanding build quality, leave us with a truly important watch from the most famous watch designer in history.
We first procured and sold this watch, the earliest known example of its reference, nearly a decade ago, and have kept close tabs on it as it passed between private collections here in New York City. When it finally became available once again, we jumped at the chance to present it once more for public offer.
