That’s the name of the game with respect to dress watches. No extraneous complications need apply: All that’s required is a set of hands, a simple dial marked at the hours, and, well…that’s pretty much it. 

If you keep it simple, you can really dial up the decorative elements: enamel dials, Bregeut hands and indices, jewel-encrusted bezels. All this stuff works if the dial is simple — something that Daniel Roth got right on this Reference 207 from the 1990s.

Housed in a 31mm 18K yellow gold ‘stepped’ case with a signed crown, a sapphire crystal, and a smooth bezel, this is simply a stunning timepiece, and a perfect dress watch. Check out its grey ‘tapestry’ dial with its radially brushed silver chapter ring, printed ‘Roman’ indices, matching, blued steel ‘broad arrow’ handset, and sub-seconds display. Everything you need, and nothing you don’t — beautifully executed.

Powered by the automatic N207 BC movement with 33 jewels and 38 hours of power reserve, it comes paired to a blue leather Analog:Shift strap with a signed, 18K yellow gold deployant clasp. Daniel Roth, a master watchmaker who worked at both AP and Breguet, infused this timepiece with charm and delight.

OVERALL CONDITION

The case is in fantastic condition overall showing normal signs of wear consistent with age and use. Grey 'tapestry' dial with brushed silver chaper ring and printed 'Roman' indices is in outstanding, as-new condition with matching blued-steel 'broad-arrow' handset. Unsigned crown. Sapphire exhibition caseback. Caseback numbered 188.
